Beefburger

Ready in 15 mins

Recipe by Graham

Of course burgers are readily available in packets but the greatly improved texture and flavour of your own Beefburgers make them well worth the small amount of effort you need to expend to make them yourself. (It also works out a whole load cheaper!)

To serve 4:

12 oz lean minced beef (ground beef)
1 onion
2 slices white bread
1 beef stock cube
1 teaspoon mixed herbs
  salt and pepper
1 egg
1 tablespoon duck fat, goose fat or beef dripping

How to Cook Beefburger

  1. Peel and finely chop (or grate) the onion, remove the crusts from the bread and crumble to soft, white inner between your fingers to make breadcrumbs. Finely crumble the stock cube into a dish and add the onion, breadcrumbs, beef, herbs and salt and freshly-ground pepper to taste. Mix this well then beat the egg and add it to bind the mixture.
  2. Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape each portion into a round, flat 'cake' about ½" - ¾" (1cm - 2cm) thick. Heat the fat in a frying pan and cook the burgers for 4-5 minutes on each side over a medium heat (according to your own cooking preference). Alternatively, you can grill your burgers on the barbecue.
  3. You can server burgers just as they are, in a burger bun with ketchup, or you can melt a little cheese on top. Alternatively you can make Mushroom and Cheese Topping or Bacon and Cheese Topping which are absolutely delicious.
GRAHAM'S HOT TIP:
If serving your burgers in a bun, try and get the ones with Sesame Seeds on top. It just adds a nice 'tang' to the overall flavour.
