How to Cook Melba Toast
- Toast the bread slices on both sides, under the grill or in a toaster. Cut off the crusts then lay the slices flat on a cutting board. Place your hand on top of the bread and, using a serrated bread knife, cut through the bread to split it. (If you are confident enough, you can hold the bread in your hand and rotate it as you slice it.)
- For the nicest looking melba toast, cut these thin slices into two or four triangles. Place the bread, toasted side down, under a hot grill and toast the untoasted sides until golden. (The sides will curl up, so keep your eye on them at all times).
Make sure to remove the crusts and split the bread while it is still warm otherwise it will crumble or break.
